Can you believe it’s June already? It feels like we’ve been anticipating this month for a long time and all of a sudden it has crept up on us. But we’re ready for you, June!
This month is filled with all sorts of fun and exciting things, including our first preview service! Continue reading to stay updated on all things City Chapel.
We’re excited to welcome Ruth Langkamp to the City Chapel family! Ruth is a Calvin student who will be interning with us this summer. She will be getting her feet wet doing a variety of things to help us through the preview services but also setting up for a great launch this fall.
What We’re Up To
Save the date for Sunday, June 17 at 10:15 am for City Chapel’s first preview service at CityFlats Hotel. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, and the person you bump into on the street to join us for a morning of worship, reflection, teaching, and fellowship. Following the service, Ron and Anna will be leading a Q&A time at Rosa Parks Circle (weather permitting) to answer any questions you have about the service, Christianity, or what they had for dinner last night. It’s casual, open, and there are no silly questions.
Save the date for City Chapel’s upcoming Art Show! July 12th we will launch our Vital Worship Grant through Calvin College. The location is still to be determined but spread the word and have your artist friends contact Garrett if they are interested in showcasing a piece or two.
We had a blast at our May block party and would love to schedule block parties throughout Grand Rapids for the duration of the summer. Our goal is to have one party scheduled per month in various neighborhoods throughout Grand Rapids. As a church, this is one way we can be open, accessible, and active members in our community. Consider hosting a City Chapel gathering on your block, in your building, or at your local park. Ask Anna about the RCA’s rentable block party in a box--hosting a party has never been easier!
On Saturday, June 2 we held a training for City Chapel volunteers. If you were unable to attend, stay tuned! We will have notes available on our website soon so you won’t miss a beat.
While many City Chapel details are in motion, there are still a lot of jobs left to complete before preview services and the official launch this fall. Check out this spreadsheet and see how you might lend a hand.
We’re looking for Bibles! If you frequent garage sales or thrift stores, or have one too many copies on your shelf, consider donating used Bibles to City Chapel! We’re looking for copies of any edition to be available during services but also as a gift for people to take home if they don’t own a copy. All Bibles can be brought to the first preview service or dropped off at Ron and Anna’s ahead of time.
Peace and clarity for Ron and Anna as they prepare for the first preview service.
People who will receive asks to join us June 17 or who may stumble upon the service and wander in. That God would speak to all who attend and our community would embrace each and every person who walks through CityFlats doors.
To be a light in Grand Rapids that shines love in places of darkness, despair, and loneliness. May we be a church that strives toward unity and reconciliation in the city.
