Get the 616: July Update

The dog days of summer are upon us! With the first preview service under our belts and the excitement of the next one looming on the horizon, we’re eagerly awaiting what God has in store for City Chapel in the next month.

Here’s a look at a few updates and events to put on your calendars. July is an eventful month!

Let’s Celebrate!

We’re beyond thankful for everyone who helped make City Chapel’s first preview service possible! With many hands, the tasks were easily completed and we gathered together for worship and fellowship on June 17 at CityFlats Hotel in Grand Rapids. You can read the full overview here, but in the meantime, thank you to everyone who attended the service, played a role in planning it, and have prayed or financially supported us to this point. We’re grateful for you!

What We’re Up To

  • Save the date for Sunday, July 22 at 10:15 am for City Chapel’s second preview service at CityFlats Hotel. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, and the person you always see at Starbucks to join us for a morning of worship, reflection, teaching, and fellowship. Following the service, Ron and Anna will lead a Q&A time at Rosa Parks Circle (weather permitting) to answer any questions you have about the service, Christianity, or what their favorite band is these days. It’s casual, open, and there are no silly questions.

  • If you haven’t had a chance to meet our summer intern, Ruth Langkamp, make sure you do so at the next City Chapel gathering (or send her an encouraging note here). Ruth is helping with City Chapel communications, social media, and SO MUCH MORE. We’re grateful for her and her service as we get ready to launch City Chapel this fall.

Get Involved

  • We’re looking for Bibles! The new or gently used Bibles of any edition that are collected will be available during services but also as a gift for people to take home if they don’t own a copy. Have a few extra laying around or spot one at your local Goodwill? Drop them off at the next preview service or to Ron or Anna ahead of time.

  • Do you have a gift you’d like to share with City Chapel? Maybe you LOVE spending time with kids, you play an instrument, or you enjoy meeting new people. Whatever your gifts and passions, there is a place for you to get involved at City Chapel. Please contact Ruth for an updated list of ways to get involved.

  • New to the area? Consider throwing a block party. We know, these sound like something straight from the 90’s. But they really do help you establish community with your surrounding neighbors. And hey, we’ll even help you throw the party. If you’re interested in something llike this, email Ron or Anna at citychapelgr@gmail.com.

  • If you’re interested in all things art - music, writing, singing, painting, dancing, etc - City Chapel wants to support you! Through the Calvin Worship Institute, we’ve received a vital worship grant to help foster a safe space for artists to create together. For more information contact Garret Stier at stier.garrett@gmail.com.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for our partners at Dégagé Ministries. May they have an abundance of resources and volunteers to serve the worn, weary, homeless, and hungry in Grand Rapids. We even had some City Chapel people volunteer there this past week! Dégagé Ministries can always use more volunteers--even just people willing to be on a sub list for volunteers. Prayerfully consider if this is something God might be calling you to do.

  • We know that you give back to the community of Grand Rapids in a variety of ways every day. But if you’ve been particularly blessed by the work of City Chapel please consider financially supporting the ministry of the church, so we can continue blessing others just like you.

  • Pray for willing hands and open hearts as we prepare for the second preview service. Also continued prayers for clarity and peace for Ron and Anna during this time of waiting and preparing.
