Hello friends! It’s that time again--a City Chapel ministry update! We’ve been busy the last month with a second preview service, planning more details for the Vital Worship Grant, and continuing to grow together as a church family.

Without further adieu, here’s a look at what’s happening this month:

Let’s Celebrate!

This month we’re celebrating everyone who joined us for our second preview service. We’re grateful for you and we’re glad you’re part of our community! If you couldn’t make it, no biggie! We have a third preview service coming up this month (see details below). We had a great time of worship, fellowship, teaching, and learning more about North End Community Ministry together. We’re grateful for all who joined us in worship but all the supporting prayers and financial gifts that also make City Chapel possible. Thank you!

What We’re Up To

  • Save the date for Sunday, August 26. We will be meeting at 10:15 a.m. to worship together at CityFlats Hotel. Everyone is welcome and we encourage you to join us, even if it’s just to see what this whole City Chapel thing is all about! Following the service, Ron, Anna, and anyone who would like to join will be meeting in Rosa Parks Circle (weather permitting) for a time of questions, reflections, and answers (or just really good conversation!). So whether you have a question about the message from that day, something else you’ve been wrestling with, or you are curious about City Chapel, please join us!

  • City Chapel seeks to be a space for dialogue and creativity in order to be more welcoming to artists. As we pursue this with intentionality from the Vital Worship Grant, we are hosting monthly discussions open to all. We will ask questions like: As a Christ follower, do you personally view art only to find God in it? Do you think God is present in all art? And, whether you consider yourself an artist or not, how have you felt welcomed into the church as a creative person? Join us this Thursday, August 9th from 6-8 p.m. for the GRAM on the Green event at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. We’d love to see you!

Get Involved

  • Church plants take work. It’s a reality we can’t look past! We’re looking for willing hands and hearts to help out in a variety of ways. That could mean serving in the nursery during services, volunteering at one of our local ministry partners, or greeting individuals as they arrive for Sunday services. There are endless ways for you to get involved. For more information, contact Ruth at

  • As mentioned above, it takes a lot of things, hands, people, and prayers to make a new church possible. But, it also takes money. With winter coming, buildings cost money on top of other expenses. As we look forward to launching officially this fall, we are looking for support now more than ever. When churches ask for money, it can be awkward, but if City Chapel has served you in any way, we as you prayerfully consider giving a monthly donation. We’ve made it super easy. Check it out.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for our partners at North End Community Ministry. Pray for an abundance of food to overflow their food pantry and may they have an overwhelming amount of volunteers to provide adequate services for the community. If you’re interested in volunteering, email Garrett at

  • Pray for patient hearts and prayerful minds as we are in this waiting period as a church. So much good can come from this in-between--relationships being formed, pastors being poured into, and as a body we’re learning more and more about our city. May we keep the momentum and excitement going for what God is doing through City Chapel as we near the official launch!

  • If you have a prayer request, concern, or just need a friend to chat, please reach out to City Chapel Pastors, Ron and Anna, at any time. They’d love to meet you and treat you to a cup of coffee anytime. You can contact them via email ( or phone (Ron: 616-914-8258 or Anna: (616) 481-8513)
