What We Believe

Commitments

Worship

"Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!" Psalm 95:6
City Chapel worships the triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit who is revealed most fully in Jesus Christ. We believe the bible contains everything one must believe to be saved and is sufficiently taught in it (Belgic Confession, Art. 7).
Because of this, you will find us deeply steeped in scripture throughout each service and in our teachings.
We are committed to being a community that worships God in all we do (work, home, & play) in order to ascribe to God the glory that God is due (Psalm 29:2), to reorient ourselves to what truly matters, and to offer our bodies as living sacrifices (Romans 12).

Reconciliation

"All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation" 2 Corinthians 5:18
We are committed to being a community that takes the teachings of Jesus seriously, reconciles brokenness in our community (racial, social, economic, etc), and to show the love of God in all that we do.

Welcome

"Therefore welcome one another as Christ has
welcomed you, for the glory of God" Romans 15:7
We are committed to being a community that welcomes all people, offers accessible leadership, and provides a space for questions to be asked without judgment.

Creeds & Confessions

We are a confessional church and so we embrace two ecumenical creeds (Apostles' Creed & Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed), three Reformed Confessions (Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort), and the Belhar Confession.

We lean into these historic beliefs that the whole church, as believers in Jesus Christ, have believed found in these ecumenical creeds:

We acknowledge we’re not here yet. We are striving for this by the power of God’s Holy Spirit, learning, growing, repenting where we fall short, and — as with everything — doing this in love.
